Every internet connection has an IP assigned to it and this usually changes each time your router reboots, or sometimes throughout the day. This is called a Dynamic IP.
When you are assigned your very own IP address that never changes – this is called a Static IP.
You might want to obtain a Static IP if you:
- Remotely access a Home Server
- Remotely access a Home CCTV system
- Use a Web Server
- Use an Email Server
- Require access to business systems from home which require a static IP so they can “allow” it secure access
